{"id":269,"date":"2025-08-06T19:25:32","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T19:25:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tdi_115_55c"},"modified":"2025-08-09T13:09:25","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T13:09:25","slug":"radio-air-time-marketing-a-new-strategy-for-the-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mychristianresource.com\/?p=269","title":{"rendered":"What Protestants Say the Catholic Church Gets Wrong"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<div>\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\u00a0<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<p data-start=\"245\" data-end=\"614\">For hundreds of years, Protestants and Catholics have agreed on many important beliefs\u2014like that Jesus is God\u2019s Son, that He died for our sins, and that He rose again. But they\u2019ve also disagreed on some big topics. These differences are part of why the Protestant Reformation happened in the 1500s, when leaders like Martin Luther broke away from the Catholic Church.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"616\" data-end=\"732\">Here\u2019s a look at some of the main things many Protestants believe the Catholic Church gets wrong\u2014explained simply.<\/p>\r\n<hr data-start=\"734\" data-end=\"737\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"739\" data-end=\"765\">1. <strong data-start=\"746\" data-end=\"765\">How We\u2019re Saved<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"766\" data-end=\"1251\">\r\n<li data-start=\"766\" data-end=\"930\">\r\n<p data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"930\"><strong data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"786\">Catholic view:<\/strong> Salvation (being made right with God) comes through faith in Jesus <strong data-start=\"854\" data-end=\"862\">plus<\/strong> good works, receiving the sacraments, and being part of the Church.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"931\" data-end=\"1100\">\r\n<p data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"1100\"><strong data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"953\">Protestant view:<\/strong> Salvation comes <strong data-start=\"970\" data-end=\"988\">by faith alone<\/strong> in Jesus Christ. Good works are important, but they are a result of being saved\u2014not a requirement to earn it.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"1101\" data-end=\"1251\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1251\"><strong data-start=\"1103\" data-end=\"1138\">Key verse Protestants point to:<\/strong> <em data-start=\"1139\" data-end=\"1156\">Ephesians 2:8-9<\/em> \u2014 \u201cIt is by grace you have been saved, through faith\u2026 not by works, so that no one can boast.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr data-start=\"1253\" data-end=\"1256\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"1258\" data-end=\"1294\">2. <strong data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1294\">The Authority of the Pope<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"1295\" data-end=\"1731\">\r\n<li data-start=\"1295\" data-end=\"1415\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1415\"><strong data-start=\"1297\" data-end=\"1315\">Catholic view:<\/strong> The Pope is the spiritual head of the whole Church on earth and has special authority given by God.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"1416\" data-end=\"1583\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1418\" data-end=\"1583\"><strong data-start=\"1418\" data-end=\"1438\">Protestant view:<\/strong> No person has that kind of ultimate authority\u2014only Jesus does. The Bible is the highest authority for what Christians believe and how they live.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"1584\" data-end=\"1731\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1731\"><strong data-start=\"1586\" data-end=\"1615\">Why Protestants disagree:<\/strong> They believe the Pope sometimes teaches things not found in the Bible, which can lead people away from God\u2019s truth.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr data-start=\"1733\" data-end=\"1736\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"1738\" data-end=\"1772\">3. <strong data-start=\"1745\" data-end=\"1772\">Tradition vs. the Bible<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"1773\" data-end=\"2073\">\r\n<li data-start=\"1773\" data-end=\"1872\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1775\" data-end=\"1872\"><strong data-start=\"1775\" data-end=\"1793\">Catholic view:<\/strong> The Bible <strong data-start=\"1804\" data-end=\"1811\">and<\/strong> Church traditions are both important sources of God\u2019s truth.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"1873\" data-end=\"2073\">\r\n<p data-start=\"1875\" data-end=\"2073\"><strong data-start=\"1875\" data-end=\"1895\">Protestant view:<\/strong> The Bible alone is the final authority (\u201cSola Scriptura\u201d means \u201cScripture alone\u201d in Latin). Traditions can be helpful, but if they go against the Bible, they should be rejected.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr data-start=\"2075\" data-end=\"2078\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"2080\" data-end=\"2110\">4. <strong data-start=\"2087\" data-end=\"2110\">Mary and the Saints<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2489\">\r\n<li data-start=\"2111\" data-end=\"2264\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2113\" data-end=\"2264\"><strong data-start=\"2113\" data-end=\"2131\">Catholic view:<\/strong> Mary (the mother of Jesus) and other saints are honored, prayed to for help, and sometimes seen as mediators between people and God.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"2265\" data-end=\"2489\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2267\" data-end=\"2489\"><strong data-start=\"2267\" data-end=\"2287\">Protestant view:<\/strong> We can respect Mary and the saints for their faith, but we should only pray to God\u2014through Jesus. The Bible says there is \u201cone mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus\u201d (<em data-start=\"2472\" data-end=\"2487\">1 Timothy 2:5<\/em>).<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr data-start=\"2491\" data-end=\"2494\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"2496\" data-end=\"2521\">5. <strong data-start=\"2503\" data-end=\"2521\">The Sacraments<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"2522\" data-end=\"2827\">\r\n<li data-start=\"2522\" data-end=\"2657\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2524\" data-end=\"2657\"><strong data-start=\"2524\" data-end=\"2542\">Catholic view:<\/strong> There are seven sacraments (like baptism, communion, confession, marriage, etc.) that give special grace from God.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"2658\" data-end=\"2827\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2660\" data-end=\"2827\"><strong data-start=\"2660\" data-end=\"2680\">Protestant view:<\/strong> Most Protestants only recognize two sacraments\u2014baptism and communion\u2014and see them as symbols of faith, not requirements for receiving God\u2019s grace.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr data-start=\"2829\" data-end=\"2832\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"2834\" data-end=\"2874\">6. <strong data-start=\"2841\" data-end=\"2874\">Communion (The Lord\u2019s Supper)<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"2875\" data-end=\"3163\">\r\n<li data-start=\"2875\" data-end=\"3005\">\r\n<p data-start=\"2877\" data-end=\"3005\"><strong data-start=\"2877\" data-end=\"2895\">Catholic view:<\/strong> In Mass, the bread and wine become the actual body and blood of Jesus (a belief called \u201ctransubstantiation\u201d).<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"3006\" data-end=\"3163\">\r\n<p data-start=\"3008\" data-end=\"3163\"><strong data-start=\"3008\" data-end=\"3028\">Protestant view:<\/strong> Communion is a special way to remember Jesus\u2019 sacrifice, but the bread and wine stay bread and wine\u2014they represent His body and blood.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr data-start=\"3165\" data-end=\"3168\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"3170\" data-end=\"3190\">7. <strong data-start=\"3177\" data-end=\"3190\">Purgatory<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"3191\" data-end=\"3458\">\r\n<li data-start=\"3191\" data-end=\"3300\">\r\n<p data-start=\"3193\" data-end=\"3300\"><strong data-start=\"3193\" data-end=\"3211\">Catholic view:<\/strong> After death, some people go to purgatory to be purified from sin before entering heaven.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"3301\" data-end=\"3458\">\r\n<p data-start=\"3303\" data-end=\"3458\"><strong data-start=\"3303\" data-end=\"3323\">Protestant view:<\/strong> The Bible doesn\u2019t teach purgatory. They believe believers go straight to be with Jesus when they die, and non-believers face judgment.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr data-start=\"3460\" data-end=\"3463\" \/>\r\n<h3 data-start=\"3465\" data-end=\"3498\">8. <strong data-start=\"3472\" data-end=\"3498\">Confession to a Priest<\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<ul data-start=\"3499\" data-end=\"3689\">\r\n<li data-start=\"3499\" data-end=\"3593\">\r\n<p data-start=\"3501\" data-end=\"3593\"><strong data-start=\"3501\" data-end=\"3519\">Catholic view:<\/strong> Believers confess sins to a priest, who gives forgiveness in Jesus\u2019 name.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li data-start=\"3594\" data-end=\"3689\">\r\n<p data-start=\"3596\" data-end=\"3689\"><strong data-start=\"3596\" data-end=\"3616\">Protestant view:<\/strong> We can confess directly to God through Jesus. Only God can forgive sins.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<hr data-start=\"3691\" data-end=\"3694\" \/>\r\n<h2 data-start=\"3696\" data-end=\"3715\">Why This Matters<\/h2>\r\n<p data-start=\"3716\" data-end=\"3917\">Protestants aren\u2019t just disagreeing for the sake of arguing. They believe that getting these truths right is important because it affects how people understand God, salvation, and the Christian life.<\/p>\r\n<p data-start=\"3919\" data-end=\"4097\">Even though the differences are real, Protestants and Catholics can still work together on many good things\u2014helping the poor, protecting life, and sharing the message of Jesus.<\/p>\r\n<hr data-start=\"4099\" data-end=\"4102\" \/>\r\n<p data-start=\"4104\" data-end=\"4383\"><strong data-start=\"4104\" data-end=\"4120\">Bottom line:<\/strong><br data-start=\"4120\" data-end=\"4123\" \/>Protestants believe the Catholic Church has added extra rules, traditions, and teachings that go beyond (and sometimes against) what the Bible says.
